What is LK Log Scan for Firewalls & Proxy Servers?
The purpose of LK Log Scan is to search through log files created by a proxy server or firewall for inappropriate words in order to help insure that web access is not being abused.  I created this program because as a network administrator, I have been asked many times by management to make sure Internet users are not using their Internet connection for inappropriate activity (i.e. adult sites) or spending long periods of time on the Internet.  I have tried blocking specific sites, but maintaining a "black list" of inappropriate sites has proven to be both difficult and time consuming.  I have also tried scanning the log files manually for inappropriate words, but as you can imagine, that is also a pain.   Finally, I tried to purchase a program to scan the logs for inappropriate activity but they were all too expensive.  Therefore, I decided to create my own log scanning program during some free time I had between jobs.

How does LK Log Scan for Firewalls & Proxy Servers work?
LK Log Scan is a very simple program that consists of only a few files.  It is designed to either be ran manually or scheduled using the task scheduler that is part of Windows.  It does not contain any dll files nor does it make any registry modifications that could possibly hang up your mission-critical server.  It is a simple executable file, a configuration file, and some ASCII text files.  It works by scanning the URLs in the server's log file for words in a text file that you create (an example word file is furnished).  If it finds these words anywhere within the domain or URL of the log file entry, it e-mails the corresponding information to an e-mail address that you define.  You can configure the program to search for words such as s e x, f e t i s h , jobs, resume, or just about anything you can imagine.
